First Day Hike at Prophetstown State Park Jan 1

Celebrate the beginning of 2018 by taking a guided hike at Prophetstown State Park on New Year’s Day.  Join the naturalist at 1:00pm at the Visitor Center, where we’ll take a stroll through the prairie.

During the hike, we’ll have an opportunity to highlight some new features in the area, including several Eagle projects completed by Boy Scouts.  These include bluebird boxes, a bat condo, and a new structure at the Native American village.  We’ll probably do some birding along the way, so bring your binoculars if you have them.

Hike begins at the Visitor Center.  We’ll end our hike at the Village, where we’ll have hot drinks and a warm fire going in the Council House.

This program is free and open to the public, and there is no gate fee at this time.

Start a new tradition with your friends and family as you get some healthy exercise and enjoy the great outdoors. “First Day Hikes” are promoted by the National Association for State Park Directors.

Flintlock Resurfacing Announcement

The Town of Battle Ground has contracted with Rieth-Riley Construction to resurface Flintlock Drive. The project will likely occur between October 23rd and November 7th and should be completed in two days. With contractor workloads and weather contingencies, it is difficult to get a more accurate schedule at this time; we will let you know when more accurate information is available.

The Police Department will place temporary “No Parking” placards 24 to 48 hours in advance of the project. Access to Calumet Ct. and driveways along Flintlock will be temporarily blocked as the milling and paving machines pass. If possible, please try to avoid driving over the tack coat as it will fly off tires and stick to vehicles. [“Tack coat” is a sticky, liquid asphalt compound that is applied to the milled surface before the new asphalt; it helps to glue the layers together.]

This project is made possible by a Community Crossings Matching Grant. The State of Indiana will pay 75% of the cost.

Public Hearing, Storm Water Utility

Public hearing to consider the impacts of a Storm Water Utility, August 22 at Battle Ground Bible Church. Letters were mailed to all property owners, and the full text is available on this website.  The document will answer questions about the need for a utility to address the increasing expenses and needs for storm water maintenance.

Road Closings Update

North Street will be under construction for about 5 weeks. It will not be closed but will be narrow lanes and may have flags so be prepared to stop when coming through town.
