Nitrate nitrogen has been analyzed annually since 1993 and more than once every three years since (at the latest) 1982. The results have always been at or below 1.1 ppm nitrate, and the nitrite level is less than the detection level of 0.01. The mcl for nitrates is 10.0 ppm and the mcl for nitrites is 1.0 ppm. The nitrate portion of the results are almost always more than ten times the nitrite portion. Blue baby syndrome is a result of high nitrite poisoning. In house testing for nitrites has always yielded less than a detectable quantity of 0.05 ppm. Back to Contents
