Our system has, at present, three wells. We have no surface water sources. We have no wells under the influence of surface water. We do not purchase water from any other source. Our water is stored in two cold wax lined steel elevated tanks. Our mains are made of gray cast iron, ductile iron, or PVC. Our service lines and fittings are made of polyethylene, copper, brass, PVC, galvanized steel, and/or lead. The latter two materials are being systematically replaced with polyethylene.
All three wells are deep, steel cased, indoor wells with line shaft turbine pumps. Well #1 has a brass wire wound screen, #2 has a stainless steel shutter screen, and #3 has a stainless steel wire wound screen. The top of the screen is more than one hundred feet deep in every well. In every case the strata above the water bearing stratum (aquifer) serving the well consist of substantial natural clay barriers that help protect the water from surface contamination. We control by ownership the land use within at least two hundred feet of every well.
We are presently well under way with our wellhead protection plan. Research has given us a good picture of the areas where our well water is coming from. One of the next steps in the plan is to add to the protection of these areas. Planned town annexation, subsequent town ordinances and proper new county ordinances will be helpful in implementing this plan. Back to Contents
